Book Mill Ride
A hilly 65-miler starting and ending at the Montague Book Mill, 440 Greenfield Road, Montague, MA (“Books you don’t need in a place you can’t find”). Lunch stop in Shelburne Falls, with time to explore (on foot) the Bridge of Flowers and the glacial potholes. The Lady Killigrew Cafe at the Book Mill is open until 9 p.m. Plan on an all-day adventure.
Parking at the Book Mill is limited and the proprietor doesn’t like us tying up spaces all day. If possible, park at the post office at 53 Main St., Montague (corner of Main & Union), and bike the half mile to the Book Mill in time for 10:00 a.m. rollout.
This is a joint ride with Charles River Wheelmen: https://www.crw.org/content/lynnes-bookmill-ride?rid=14306&date=2022-09-04
CRW leader Ellen expects to average 13-14 mph. 7HW leader Lynne may go slower. Faster riders are welcome to go off the front.
There are two short stretches (1 mile or less) of hard-packed dirt.
At mile 55, optional steep climb up Mount Sugarloaf, with sweeping views across the Connecticut River. Skipping Mount Sugarloaf will cut off 3 miles.

Cue sheet for shorter version (45 miles, does NOT go to Shelburne Falls):
Sorry, we don’t have a ridewithgps for the shorter route. You just skip the hairpin right turn at mile 17.9 and continue straight, thereby eliminating the lollipop-shaped part of the route that goes to Shelburne Falls and back.
