Major Taylor Welcome Ride

A 34-mile afternoon ride from the Major Taylor statue at the Worcester Public Library on scenic roads in quiet towns to the north.

A great way to stretch your legs the day before the George Street Bike Challenge for Major Taylor. We’ll get a look at George Street itself, but we will NOT pedal up that hill on this ride. We’ll also see the Major Taylor mural at Chandler Elementary School, and we’ll make use of the new bike lane on Main Street.

Notes for out-of-towners:
The library is 1 mile or less from downtown hotels.
There’s plenty of parking space in the McGrath Municipal Parking Lot , 40 Salem St. (You get a ticket when you drive in,  and when you’re ready to leave, you pay at the kiosk before you get in your car, and then your ticket will open the exit gate.  It’s $1 per hour if you get your ticket validated inside the library, which is open 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., so please get your ticket validated BEFORE you pedal away. Inside the library, walk straight to the Welcome Desk and scan the bar code on your ticket.)

Pre-ride social: We plan to watch the last couple of hours of Stage 20 of the Tour de France (the last stage before Sunday’s finale on the Champs-Elysees) on the big screen at Redemption Rock Brewing Co., starting at 11:00 a.m.  In addition to beer, Redemption Rock has coffee and snack food. You can bring your own food but you are not allowed to bring beverages of any kind. Details: https://sevenhillswheelmen.org/events/tour-de-france-watch-party-318-648/
